Rev Greg Heinsman will be our guest minister this week. Greg will lead the service and deliver a sermon on the theme "Theodicy: Reflections on 9/11 (or, if God is good, why is there human suffering?)" Theodicy, from the Attic Greek for the Justice of God, is one of the most vexing problems within the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition. The standard attributes of God, omnipotence, omniscience, omni-benevolence, and being the creator ex-nihilo seem to be incompatible with the existence of evil. One of the clearest statements of the problem of theodicy was given by Mark Twain in the story of Little Bessie. Twain has a precocious 3 year old perplex her mother with questions about God's goodness and the existence of suffering. Join us for a pot luck supper at 5 and stay for Rev. Heinsman's sermon and discussion.
